I'm back! I didn't post for a while, and then for the last couple of months thought it'd probably be a good idea to switch to a new template. I thought I'd block the blog to the public, since no updates have been made anyway, and then open up access again once the design tweaks were done. Well, as you can see - that failed.
I got tired of tweaking the new template that I want, and when I fix one thing, another needs tweaking...plus, actually making the time to play 'coder' is not my ideal evening. Add to that mix, the distraction of facebook, twitter, mindless net surfing, TV-time and happy hours with friends. CN didn't just take the back-seat. It was shoved in the trunk wrapped with newspaper. Out of sight, out of mind.
I decided to keep this design for now. Yes, it's classic, but it's still clean, and minimal.
Moving on...a quick recap since September.
- Visited Vikas, Priti D, Diya & Simi in Jersey while I had to go up to Princeton for work. It was quick, but fun. I had a great time with the kids.
*Priti D - love what you've done with the house. You've probably done a lot more now. Another visit coming up!*
While I was there, a quick NYC visit (but of course!), and I mean quick - like 4 hours. Walked through (and worked for a bit) from Central Park. It was a gorgeous day, and sitting there on the bench by the pond felt good. I wish I could work from there everyday. Overreaching here.
- Lost my DL. Got it later. Not a fun story. Want to forget.
- Dad was here!! He decided to come to the US for a short trip, and it was incredible seeing my old man after 4 years. He's the real Superman, you know. Still working hard, still going strong, and refuses to rest. He wanted to surprise Tams, so I went to Minneapolis, picked him up from the airport, and surprised the hell out of her. Naturally, a tear-jerker moment for her. As usual, good times are always around when you are with Pari and Tams. I had fun. Chill, relax and played some Tiger Woods on Wii! We spent a week there for Diwali, then Dad and I came back to Dallas and he spent another week here. I wished it would have been longer. Two weeks (and one week for Tams) doesn't do justice to 4 years apart from family. That is the suck. Hopefully, will be seeing more of them starting 2010, when Cookie graduates High school.
I also wish I could have had my place furnished when he was here. I just moved in to the new apartment, and before I could do anything, I had to go to MSP, and then back. But oh well, I get to be with Dad after such a long time - that's what counts. Miss him and the family now.
- The return of 'The Sinhas': Priti D and the twins paid a quick visit to Dallas for a weekend. Stayed over at Vini's place. We pretty much ate out quite a bit, and had fun with the kids, who were hell bent on making sure I got my butt up early in the morning - early for me at least! I think Priti D is probably the only family member who's seen the new apartment...but when it was bare walls.
- New Years' was the bomb! 'Nuff said.
- In the last quarter, not a whole lot had been going on. I've pretty much been back and forth between work and home, out with friends during the weekends...and busy setting up the apartment. Living room's almost done. All it needs now is a flat screen TV and some artwork. Pretty soon here, the place could turn into the HQ for friends to hang out. We'll see how that turns out.
That's all for now folks.
BTW, another tab going up for Twitter. So go on, twitter me bad. I already have friends. I need followers...That's where it's at!

The weather has been topsy-turvy lately. It's 30F outside and feels like 24F with the wind chill. It's cold. I love it. Lunch at work usually is a group thing. We either end up going out together or order take-out. On a cold day like this, only one thing came to mind. A hot hearty Pho soup. Oh man it was good.
Other than that, I know I have been on a hiatus. What can I say? Life took over. I will post soon.

Per Newsweek, Bill gates called it the next generation of social networking. I totally agree. I LOVE this app.

Last week has been busy at work - but the fun kind actually. The annual unified conference kicked off with a dinner party, and then a 2 day span on Thursday and Friday. So, this time around we decided to do a video, based on 'The Office' theme. The game-show ideas were used twice consecutively, and now we needed to top that. Well, actually we needed to top the presentation done by the Accounting department last year. So, the team hung out at Bob's place last Saturday and we decided to do a music video as well. Justin wrote about 10 scenes, basically a scene for each member of the team, and then a few additional ones to close the video. We had a blast filming Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, and then Jarrod and I spent hours and hours editing on Thursday night. Our presentation was Friday. The other departments didn't know what we had up our sleeve. We had a 30 minute time-slot for our department's presentation, and the video ended up being 29:36. Perfect timing.
We did an AWESOME job. Everybody loved our video. Again, it was based on 'The Office' theme, but in between we had about 3 commercials in the PC vs Mac format, except it was Old Way vs New Way, and Justin and Bob nailed that part. Justin especially, plays a perfect John Hodgman. We also had another commercial, which was based on Bud Light's "Real Men of Genius", and wrote the lyrics to saluting Vu, as 'Mr. Project Manager Guy'. This was totally hilarious. And I'll put the video up here for you guys to watch in a few hours, ok maybe days.
The music video I talked about earlier, is nothing more than a bunch of our team members acting out playing drums, guitars & piano while Bob and Justin sing to "Taking care of business". But the actual song was dubbed over the video, and then I used acting bloopers and funny behind the scenes clips into it. The end result - We WON the presentation. In fact, these exact words from Justin's email yesterday:
So there you have it. Now of course the video was designed to be funny and a mockumentary, yes. But at the same time also convey what we do as a team and what our individual day to day jobs entail - all that with a humorous slant. So having said that, even if I post the entire video, you folks won't be interested in that major chunk of it because you won't get the references as the people in the company do. What I will break down and post is the commercials, and maybe the ending music video. So wait for it. I am too tired now to slice and dice a 6.5GB video file, compress it, check quality, upload it and then post it. But we had the best time making it. Forget the other departments, I am sure our team also doesn't know how we can top ourselves next year...but we always come up with something.
I went out Friday night with a few co-workers to a couple of clubs. I had a superb time there. I need to do that more often, by which I mean once a month or so - not the weekender-college-level-smasher kind.
Other than that, I will be moving soon. I finally signed a lease, and if everything works out - which it looks like it is so far - I am moving to an apartment by Galleria mall. The location couldn't be any better. I am right smack in the center of North Dallas surrounded by Tollway, 635, 75, and George Bush. Addison, Uptown, Plano, Downtown are less than a 15 minute drive, probably lesser. Best of all - work is EXACTLY 5 minutes away. Compare that to McKinney, where the commute is at least an hour with traffic and a 26.5 miles one way. The area around the place is urban and modern. Rent's not bad. The apartment is decently sized and spacious. I have to start looking into getting furniture now. I have a vivid image in mind of what the place needs to look like. So I am going to take my own sweet time furnishing the place, and not do things in a rush. If all things remain equal (and in my favor), move-in date is set to October 3rd. Otherwise, this paragraph will be scratched out.
One more thing - While being really occupied last week with preparing for the conference, filming & editing, attending, and participating in it, and then spending the weekend apartment hunting, and signing the lease; I have not been on Facebook or chatted a lot, or maybe at all with anyone - Yet, I am alive. There is life beyond Facebook. Amazing :) [I am being facetious here]
Well, that's all folks. I am going to watch some TV as my transition into going to sleep. I will see y'all soon.
G'nite.

Well, that's all folks. I am going to watch some TV as my transition into going to sleep. I will see y'all soon.
G'nite.
It's 4:18 AM and I should be asleep. But here I am, wide awake typing away into an empty notepad. I don't know what it is. Last night too, I was up tossing and turning till around the same time now, and I couldn't sleep at all. It could be that this week, even though so far it's just 2 days into it, I have been busy putting out fires at work. I am so focused at extinguishing them, that the only free time my mind has to wander an infinite amount of thoughts is at night, when I am the most relaxed.
Things to do, mental checklists, accomplishments - personal and work, apartment hunts, thoughts of family back home, of family here; friends, upcoming events, travel & trips - and planning for them, expectations - set of me, and whether I am living up to them, untold wishes that I am hoping come true, endless scenarios and so on. See, it is super easy for me to get distracted. Any one thought can, and probably will, open doors to yet five or six more, and those into some more in a cascading effect.
Another thing that I don't seem to understand is that I get hungry, really hungry in the middle of the night - when my mind is battling this conscious cerebration. My diet isn't the best, but my eating schedules are fine. For instance, yesterday for lunch, I had a somewhat heavy meal at Humperdinks, and then in the evening at around 8PM, I had yet another heavy meal for dinner. But still, at 2AM in the morning, my stomach growled, and that called for a stroll to the pantry, and I ended up having a bowl of cereal with milk. Then today, it was a Chik-fil-A chicken sandwich combo for lunch, tuscany chicken pasta for dinner, and yet about 20 minutes ago, I chowed down on a butter sandwich and still sipping my Coke. I have no idea why my brain thinks I am missing out on food. Perhaps, it could be that I am skipping breakfast. Whatever it may be, I did finally fall asleep last night at around 4AM, and woke up at 8AM today.
Since I just got 4 hours to my credit last night, I thought I could seriously crash after dinner today, and I did, at around 11:30P, but for some reason woke up at 1AM, tossed and turned to get back to sleep, and couldn't. Stomach growled, and as I mentioned, I made a sandwich, and now I am just wide awake. I figure, I can update the blog with some random talk.
September's here. You know what that means? Sick month! Sometime every September I get really sick and feverish. I know it's coming. The weather has already started to change around here. It was cloudy and breezy yesterday, as it was today. Co-workers have started their runs to their Docs and Allergists. I am feeling the precursor too. A litte weak, tired and fatigued. Although that could be because of the lack of sleep ("Geez Sachin - you think?!"). Hey, as long as it doesn't happen around Christmas and New Years', I am fine with September sickness.
I mentioned in my last post about being here 10 years now. While I am still debating a "special" write-up on that, I have realized that I have changed a lot over time. Ten years ago, I was somewhat naive, gullible, nice, but nice in a doormat kind of way. I don't regret saying that now that things have changed the last few years or so. I mean I am still an easy going guy and as I see it, likable to others (hopefully), and love to strike meaningful conversations with anybody and everybody. You'll probably always see me goofing around and being silly, and most of all, optimistic. Having said that, I do put my needs first. When I know what I want (or need), I am going for it regardless of result. I am usually pretty direct in my conversations and most important of all - I have learned to say NO. It's actually pretty easy, and I should have started that a while back. Does this make me sound mean? Not really. But who said you can judge? ... See how it works. Anyhoos, moving on...
Fall TV Line up I am looking forward to: Heroes, The Office, SNL Thursdays (capitalizing on elections), Knight Rider, Scrubs final season, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles.
September movies I'd like to watch: Bangkok Dangerous, Burn After Reading, Righteous Kill, Eagle Eye, 12 (Russian, English subtitles), Choke.
I just got done with The Bourne Legacy audio book - Loved it!
Book I am now reading: The Bancroft Strategy.
Books I want to read: The Bourne Sanction, Audacity of Hope, Step On a Crack
Ok, it's 4:38AM now, so I am going to attempt to hit the sack. Hopefully I wake up on time for work. Call me, will you? Please? :)
Good night; Or Good morning rather.

Went to DEFCON in Vegas 3 weekends ago. For those who don't know, this is the world's largest underground hacking convention, and a sister to the Black Hat conference. The entire conference spanned over the weekend with a variety of tracks to go to. My co-worker and I attended quite a few of them. This was our first time at DEFCON, and it was overwhelming. There must have been at least 2500 - 3000 hackers all under one roof. This is one place you do NOT want to take your laptop to. It WILL be hacked, and you won't even know it. There was a barrage of tutorials and hacking tools available that now I feel I've come back much smarter in this area than ever before. SQL injections, cookie hijacking, captcha breaks and exploiting them, "man in the middle" hacking technique, DNS re-routes, etc. Yeah - exposed to all of these things. I know this may sound like a bunch of technical jargon, so let me make it simple. How smart does this experience make me? Let's just say that if I find you in a Starbucks somewhere plugging away on your laptop, I can see what you're doing, read your email, even log in to your email for the next few days without you even knowing, and send jibberish to a bunch of your friends. I am now just THAT smart. :)
Considering this was my first trip to Sin City, I had to go around and explore it while I could. I ended up checking out almost every casino, walked the entire strip, took a bunch of pictures, and absolutely loved it. We went up the Stratosphere rides which simply rocked. Being swung out on the edge of the tower and spun around at that height was exciting as hell. We watched Seinfeld and Blue Man Group on the same night. Seinfeld was just hilarious, as he always is. When Blue Man Group performed, they had some of the same acts I had seen on TV before, nevertheless, mind blowing. Of course, I took my chances at gambling, but let's not go there, although I will say that I lasted an entire weekend with my winnings. We did end up going to The Bank at Bellagio, which was pretty BA. Also checked out the fountain and took a video too. Pretty good trip overall. Here's some pictures:
Next destination: Minneapolis.
Here's a trip I was really looking forward to. I went to visit Paresh and Tams for the week to help 'em move into their new house...wait...my NEW spot. Congrats to you guys. Seriously well deserved - in fact, overdue. I can't begin to describe their place. It is in every way perfect for the two of them. I really like every nook and corner of the place. They've got me thinking now.
In that week, I think we did a pretty superb job at loading stuff up from the old apartment and moving it into the new house. Tams was working during the week, but took Monday and Friday off. Karishma was in town and her and I kicked some butt at unpacking and moving boxes around. Guys, we make a good team. Moving business on the horizon? Maybe? No? Ok.
We did find some time to chill everyday and just have a couple of drinks, joke and talk. Here's something to jerk y'alls memories - HELICOPTER! 'Nuff said.
One of the best parts of the trip was meeting with Nikhil. The awesome one year old son of P's older brother. I had a blast with him. I think it took him a little while to get comfortable with me around as the new face in the house, but in no time he overcame that and played with me. We took him out on the deck, danced with him and just being goofy in general. I really miss him - can't wait till I get to see him again.
To close the week, the four of us decided to dine at Houlihan's. Tams and I celebrated the 10 year mark here in the US. Like wow. 10 years. This needs a post of it's own. I might write one up. Next morning Tams, Pari and I catch a bite at Ikea's restaurant before I flew out.
The hardest part of the trip - leaving! I always hate that. I have to say, I enjoyed a LOT more in Minneapolis than I did Vegas. Yeah I know I was in Vegas for work and not with a crowd on a vacation, and I know that I had family in Minneapolis...but regardless, I miss being in Minneapolis now. Minneapolis - what have you done to me? New York. New York. New York. Heh. Overall though, I am at my happiest when around family. I simply feel free.
More posts coming.
