Crumpled Nothings!

I was about to start off with " I haven't blogged in a while", but I think that could sound redundant considering that's what I have implied or maybe even said in the last few posts off and on. So I'll just start.

My notebook has been and still is busy since I have automated the listings up on my ebay store. This Automate 6 thing is so cool that I have started using it at work as well. You just tell it what tasks to do and what time you want them done and how frequently you want them done and it does it for you. Its not as easy at it sounds during the implementing stages. There needs to be some sort of patience involved when writing your steps, but the final result is near flawless. I have 2 machines running (desktop and my notebook) at our place just listing products every minute on ebay. We have so far about 1400 listed - IN 6 DAYS. It would have taken us 20 to do it manually, with days off from work.

So since the computers have been busy, I haven't had a chance to post. So today, I post from work after hours. This is one long post...coz I don't know when I will again, so read on.

The following is in no particular order.

I went to watch the Mavericks game last night with KK and her friends. This was the first time I had ever been to a basketball game and I loved every bit of it. I am a HUGE Mavericks fan and to be able to actually see them go at it vs watching them on TV is a big difference. If you haven't already, then do it. Its well worth it.

We beat the Minnesota Timberwolves (which I knew we would). I mean Minn is got a couple good players, but the Mavericks team collaboration goes undisputed. Harris, Nowitzki, Dampier, Howard, Terry and Stackhouse to name some. Beating Minnesota makes us win 10 games in a row now. Come playoffs, we need a little more zing to make this team effort last long and win it.

KK, Pari, Tams, Nams - Sorry, we just kick butt :)

Casino Royale 2006

I have to tell you. Daniel Craig did exactly what he said - brought Bond back to what Bond should really be. Not afraid to take out his mark. No glorifying and hyping up the gadgets and gizmos that help sell most other Bond movies (although I loved them ALL).
It all came down to good story telling and superb acting.

If you've watched Layer Cake, Road to Perdition, Munich, The Jacket to name a few, then you know what I am talking about. He brings acting to its core. The stunts were amazing. Check out the foot chase and jumping from the crane. Also, there's a part in the movie where after having lost all the money from the first round of poker, he walks up to the bartender and orders a martini. The bartender asks, "Shaken or Stirred?". You would think he would've said "Shaken" right. But his answer was so simple, but so damn smart. I won't spoil it for those who haven't watched it. Just watch it. He nailed it.

Looking forward to Bond 22 next.

Dhoom 2

On the contrary, here's Dhoom 2, more like "Doom" 2. I was really excited about watching this one. In the previews when I saw HR skating away while being shot at and jumping of a plane and switch disguises, it really built up the crave to go watch it. So I did. And it bombed. It was bad. It was the MI:2 of the Mission Impossible series.

Let me tell you why I THINK this movie sucked. From the very beginning it had that aura of building up things to where you go "Ok this is good, I am watching, go on" and then just when you had your full attention, it pulled the rug off your feet (just as bad as I put that expression).

Skydiving on to a moving train - Good.
Wearing a disguise to get in the train and steal the crown - Good.
Sand skiing on tracks - Good.
Jumping while sand skiing at 40 - 50 mph from tracks to the top of the train - Bad Make Believe moment.
That just killed the entire scene.

Disguising to be a statue and standing still with room full of guards with a hidden video camera for your radio controlled gadget - Smart and Good.
Trying to camouflage that big bulky piece of crap around those guards - Real Dumb.
Stealing the diamond with that long arm of that bulky thing while guards are circling around it and not noticing this happening - Bad, Dumb and stupid.

Why was the role of Sonali (Bipasha) even cast in the first half, when the role of Monali (twin Bipasha) was more focused on? - and might I add neither of them had any reason to be there. They were not even part of the story. Other than just to be there to compliment an opposite male character. Like Sonali for Ab Jr in the first half and Monali for Uday Chopra in the second half. I just didn't get that. And also, why even switch and do the whole twin sister thing - Why was that part so necessary?

Aishwarya Rai and her "Like" talk didn't jive. It annoyed me and made me laugh at the same time. Her character wasn't done well. It would have been nice to see a more confident like com padre for the main thief. Someone more bolder, and mature...Sushmita Sen (?) [While reading that last line, picture Catherine Zeta-Jones in Entrapment; Now substitute her with Sushmita - See, Sush can do it right?]

In the end, when Ash shoots HR and he's falling off the cliff, why did I know that he wasn't dead. I just knew it. And cut to scene, he was cooking in the kitchen. I don't know...the ending could have been a little better. I can't think of another plot ad hoc, but it should have been a little better.

To me the the entire thing looked like a model show. Every one JUST HAD TO HAVE a slo-mo badass shot for almost every freakin' scene. And the girls of the movie are not left out here either. I was like "Stop that already". One or 2 is fine. Don't over do it.

I think that the HR's acting was brilliant. He plays an excellent thief. I think Aby Jr plays a good "What the hell are you looking at?" attitude-filled cop. I think HR dances fan-effin-tastic too. I also think that he has really worked out hard enough to have an 8-pack. That just beat John Abraham. The only line I liked out of Uday Chopra was "Arrey, iske toh naam mein bhi Ali hai" referring to Monali. But otherwise any mention of his character here is a waste.

The movie had somewhat the right mix of actors excluding Rai. It had somewhat a good story line. It had somewhat good camera angles and shots. It just needed discipline.

Plugging in store now:

We have listed about 1400 items of fragrances and going. I think that's really good compared to other fragrance stores. IN a few days we'll have almost tripled that number to be on the top 5 eBay Fragrance stores. This means we will be listed on eBay's homepage. Our products will be highlighted at all times. And then we have the best ingredient working for us. On almost 90% of the products we carry and still going, we beat all other ebay STORES' prices. I CAPS the word STORES, because individuals are a totally different ballgame. Check it out and if you need anything that you don't see yet, let me know. I'll get it for you.

That's all I think I have for you right now. I really got to start posting and avoid a mega bulk-post every so often.

I have just been so extremely busy with my off hours working on setting up the store. I haven't slept well this weekend. But now I can breathe and coz what I was trying to accomplish is finally working.

I had the flu for a while. I got my flu shot, then got sick, then feverish. Now fever's gone, sinus pressure has diminished, and the coughs are wearing off.

Among other things, I REALLY want to take advantage of Black Friday this week. While Circuit City, Best Buy and others are opening at 5AM that morning, CompUSA is opening its doors at 11PM the night before. I have my eyes on a laptop. Please cross your fingers for me. Hope that it will be available.

Watching my recorded programs now - Amazing Race and Las Vegas.

I am so flustered I don't even know what to blog. I am going to go hit the sack. Apologize for this really un-interesting post.

Later.

I had to post this.

One of my favorite classical pieces that soothes my brain and completely relaxes me ALL the time, no matter how stressed I am is Claude Debussy's "Clair De Lune" (French for Moon Light). I heard this the first time on the Ocean's Eleven movie where the guys are standing by the Bellagio fountains. In the movie though, 'The Philadelphia Orchestra' version was played. While I like that, there's nothing that beats the original.

Listen to it: It truly is really relaxing.

Claude Debussy, Suite bergamasque, "Clair De Lune"

I AM BACK!

Yes, my fellow readers. I know I have been away for quite sometime now and frankly, I haven't been able to find the time to post and the spare time that I did have, I got lazy and just put off posting till later.

Anyways, here's a list of things that have happened ever since my last post:

1. One day work trip to Memphis - this was fast. I do want to go back and visit Graceland and experience this Blues music filled city, but its not anywhere in the top 20 places I want to visit; so can wait.

2. I got my car back. Black hood on it. Just great. Easy for the cops to notice. What more could I ask for?

3. I finally watched Lage Raho Munnabhai and absolutely enjoyed the movie. Loved Arshad Warsi's character even more than the first one, especially the part in the beginning of the movie, where he holds a high ranking engineer at gun point and threatens to shoot him for every question he asks. Also can't get 'Pal Pal' song out of my head.

4. Speaking of songs, I listened to the tracks of Dhoom 2, and let me put this in the most nicest way possible: SUCKS!
[Although I still want to watch the movie]

5. We recently got a Brunswick pool table in the house and to avoid paying mucho dinero for its assembly, Sayeed and I toughened up and decided to assemble it ourselves. Bad idea. It took us all day because what we didn't realize was that pool tables have 3 slates that go under the felt of the table. Each slate weighs 550 pounds, and I am not exaggerating. We had to take each slate and go up the stairs one by one until we finally got to the top and did that 3 times. To give you a better idea, the weight of one slate equals one-half of a full sized bull.

So ever since we put it together on Sunday, we have been shooting pool at home, and it saves us $9 - $15/hour by not going to Main Event.

6. Work has been overly busy. I closed 13 tickets today (my average is 4-5/day). I was putting out fires and was just on a roll determined NOT to leave until I got my plate empty, which I did. Meanwhile, I rec'd an e-card from Terry (my ex-boss) and I was surprised. I opened the card, and it read "Congratulations on completing 2 full years". I was like Daymn! 2 Years. Two Full years today on 11/8/2006. I didn't realize it until I read her card. So of course, I walked over and thanked her and we chatted for a bit. I don't think Justin knows, but my review should technically be today. However, I started with IT Dept early February of this year, I think my review will be sometime Feb 2007.

But I am not thinking in those terms (YET). I am just surprised that it has been 2 full years. Pat on the back please.

7. Another thing that's keeping me busy is my latest and 'realistic' new venture with Sayeed. Our eBay store. Yes, I am now a statistic in the 'desi with an eBay store' graph. We just started listing, and thanks to Tams, this will be expedited faster. Our store is called Pure Scents Pro which is mainly your "one-stop shop for fragrances" (nice plug, right?) and we have made a few sales; I think we are different from the others in simply what matters most to consumers - PRICE. And we are hoping for a LOT more since we have to list over 3500 products. Feel free to visit Pure Scents Pro.

8. I have been hooked on carrot juice. Karla and I usually go to lunch at Fadi's (since nobody else in the group was that fond of it) and they serve the best Arabic food (so far). They have a variety of salads, hummus, etc and they serve pita bread (khabbus) hot from the brick oven straight to your plate. They also have fresh fruit juices that they blend, and ever since we've had the carrot juice, we have been hooked. The last time when we went to lunch at Fadi's, we stopped at the grocery store, picked up a couple of bags of carrots and she blended them for the next few days and would get a pitcher half full of carrot juice (it takes 1 bag for just 3/4th's of a pitcher) and keep it in the refrigirator at work. We would then drink it all day.

I think so far the above should have you guys caught up on current events; because who really cares that Rick Perry won the elections yet again, despite 60% NOT voting for him.

And then some...

Till later.
